I have a general practice in which I treat children, adolescents, adults, couples and families with a variety of psychological concerns:
• Emotional Regulation and Behavior Management
• Depression and anxiety
• Stress and anger
• School / Workplace Problems
• Relationship Issues
• Life Transitions and Situational Conflicts (grief, loss, illness, trauma)
• Health and Wellness, Performance Enhancement
• Clinical Supervision and Case Consultation
I specialize in the following issues and approaches:
ADHD (childhood through adult)
I take a psycho-social-educational perspective in assessing and treating ADHD. I help individuals of all ages and families understand the complexities of ADHD, including how it manifests across settings. Treatment focuses on learning about the disorder, identifying strengths and weaknesses and improving internal and environmental resources to enhance functioning.
Emotional Regulation (for trauma, depression, anxiety, anger and stress management)
Whether long standing or current onset, I work with you to improve tolerance for emotional upset and worry, to identify stressors and negative patterns that maintain over-reactivity and to help restore calm, focus and improved functioning.
Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy
I treat a very broad range of difficulties including emotional, social, behavioral, school and developmental problems. I have a sub-specialty with adolescents and young adults, helping them successfully navigate the stages of their growing urges for independence and identity.
Divorce/Custody/Blended Families
I work with children and parents at various stages in this process: preparation of telling the children, assisting with custody plans, improving co-parenting and parent-child relationships during and after the divorce process, and enhancing the functioning of blended families.
Family and Couples Therapy (including parenting)
Working with families and couples allows a unique opportunity to see how interactions, rather than merely ones individual behavior, create and maintain distress. From this perspective, change can occur at any point in the cycle of interactions thereby opening up more avenues to resolve conflict and enhance fulfillment. I welcome a new parent or couple adjusting to parenthood or those struggling with managing a child with psychological or medical issues.
Hypnosis
I am certified in Hypnosis by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH). I incorporate both formal and informal self-hypnosis into my practice. It can be useful to a host of emotional struggles including depression and low self-esteem, anxiety disorders, health and wellness (irritable bowel syndrome, smoking cessation), performance enhancement and sometimes in trauma work. My general view of hypnosis is that it is an adjunct to good treatment and is more rarely the treatment itself.
Group Therapy Programs
I offer time limited skills training groups for children and adolescents. Topics include, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (for pre-teens through college), Frustration Tolerance and Anger Management, Understanding and Managing ADHD. These groups are strategy oriented, offering tools participants can learn and utilize in their everyday life. Groups for parents are being developed. Please contact me for information on current offerings.
Treatment Coordination
I will team with psychiatrists, physicians, school staff and other professionals involved in your care to maximize the benefit of talk therapy.
Please feel free to contact me if you have questions about my experience with your particular concerns.
