With over 20 years of experience, I believe psychotherapy is a path to healthier living. I think we are most at ease and functioning at our best when our feelings, thoughts and behaviors are in-sync and make sense to us. With understanding we can feel more centered, begin to see things more clearly, develop new skills and relationships, and live more contentedly.
’Talk’ therapy, therefore, may focus on facing difficult situations and accepting or managing feelings. It may examine how your feelings and thinking influence each other and your behavior. Therapy is a place to understand how your thinking perpetuates your problems and to consider new perspectives. Therapy is also a place to experiment with behavior changes, including communication skills, which lead to better adjustment. I also incorporate a mind-body orientation in my work, obtained through my hypnosis and stress management training. These methods might include mindfulness and breathing techniques, guided imagery, self-hypnosis, and resiliency training.
For me, therapy is a collaborative effort. To that end, I strive to create a warm and accepting environment in which we can have an exchange wherein you may speak freely and I may ask questions and offer comments that bring forth both acceptance and the challenge to grow. To reach this goal I bring to sessions a compassionate and thoughtful stance, a sense of curiosity, humor and practicality, all supported by a solid base of knowledge. I welcome your feedback along the way as we match the treatment to your ongoing needs. I am happy to collaborate with other care providers such as physicians, psychiatrists and teachers to enhance your treatment.
